Music Video Feedback

As I posted my survey on various social networking sites I thought I would get a variation of age groups answering my questions but I ended up mainly getting responses from people in the age group of 15-19. This is probably because the people I have on my social media are around this age and the survey would not have been seen by many people older than that.

1) My first question asks the participants of my survey under what age category they come.

I asked this question to see what age groups were answering my question. It ended up the age group which answered the most questions was ages 15-19. This was great as it is one of the age groups under which my music video was aimed at therefore this gave me a better insight into the written responses later on in the survey as it will show me what I did well and what could have been done differently to appeal to my target audience,

2) Secondly I asked the respondents which gender they were as I thought this makes the survey more personal to them and also shows me what percentage of my feedback will be male or female influenced.

Luckily it was 50/50 when it come to what gender was answering my survey questions therefore the survey will be equal in its responses when it comes to gender influences throughout response.

3) Thirdly I asked did you enjoy my video? If the participant chooses yes then I made the survey so they would have to write what they actually liked about it rather than just saying yes which could have just been done to be polite. I thought by adding this comment box would make the respondents think more about why they like it and give me feedback on why the did like it/what elements worked well and looked good to them.Luckily no one answered no to not liking it and I got some good comments about it such as...

'The locations used worked well with the theme of the song' and 'I liked the way some of the clips fitted with the lyrics for example the smashing of the heart'. These comments which are shown in a wider quantity above tell me I made a creative and effective music video which appeals to my target audience.

4) I asked the participants in which took my survey whether they understood the story behind it. All my responses came back as 'yes' to they do understand they story behind it which gives me first hand evidence that my music video has been successful in conveying a story which can be read by target audiences.

5) Could anything of been done differently? if yes please specify. Asking this question gave the respondents the choice to either say no there is nothing I would change or yes and leave a comment on what they think could have been done differently or added to make it better/ more professional.

Some people voted no that they didn't think that anything needed to be changed but others disagreed and gave me some helpful advice which I could take into consideration if I am to create a music video in the future. Responses such as 'Yes it could have had more dance sequences' is one I agree with as I think there needed to be more focus on the artist herself. This backs up another respondents answer that 'Could have had more focus on the actual artist herself' which like I have said I agree with. Using comment boxes on surveys is a great way I have found to collect quantitative data as people can write as much as they want answering the question which is being asked of them.

6) Is it realistic? This was a great qualitative question as it gave people two choices, either to answer yes it was or no it wasn't. Everyone who took the survey answered yes which shows me I succeeded in making a realistic, professional and successful music video.
 7) Asking what the music videos strengths were and also asking what what were the good parts enabled me to see what I had done correctly to capture my target audiences attention and please them with the conventions I used such as location, mise en scene, editing and sound etc.

I recieved a varied amount of responses for this such as 'The actors were sourced well and it looks good' This shows me through research into music videos I have sourced the right people to be in my music video which works as it is favoured by a target audience member. 'The lip syncing is good' which is a compliment as I know in some stages it does work but I know from a previous response that it doesn't work so well in other parts therefore I know from this that if I am to create another music video some time that I will ensure all lip syncing is in time with the song so it can look as professional as possible. Finally two respondents answered 'Good song choice' and one 'The camera angles work well' This shows me that I have chosen a good known popular song which touches a mass audience rather than a specific target audience in the real life text version and that I have used a created a piece of work which convey good camera angles to make the music video appear more professional.
